This cute little penguin jumped on board to say hello to an Australian research crew working in Antarctica! Together with UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia and Australian Antarctic Division the CSIRO is developing new tools to assess the risk of pollution to the environment.
The stunning moment was caught by researcher Matthew McKay, and after being shared by Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) on their facebook page has gone viral with over 80k views and over 850 shares. The cute liitle penguin has brought some much needed attention to the CSIRO who conduct some of the worlds most vital research, yet have been losing funding year after year, the cuts have been so savage that since 2013 the organisation has lost 1 in 5 positions or more than 20 per cent of its workforce.

Of course, this is reminiscent of one of our favorite memes of all-time, the penguin who just wants to help researchers do some science!
The team said the cute little penguin wasn’t the only one to jump into their boat to investigate – eight more inquisitive penguins ended up popping in!
Matt McKay was shooting video when that penguin jumped out of the water and onto the boat.
McKay is part of a team of Australian Antarctic Program researchers working at Casey Research Station.
“They were out in small boats in Newcomb Bay collecting water samples for a research project. Over the course of the day (Tuesday, January 16th) they had eight curious penguins drop in to check out their work!” a spokesperson for the Australian Antarctic Program told KDVR.
